COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION

Lodging your application:

It is essential that you lodge your application online by the closing date specified in the advertisement.

SBS is not obliged to accept late applications. If you are unable to lodge your application by the closing date please discuss your circumstances with the contact officer to find out if a late application will be accepted.

If you are unable to lodge your application online, please contact the Recruitment Officer to discuss your circumstances and make alternative arrangements.

Tell us your career story:

Your written job application is vital in the selection process.

In your application you must clearly and concisely demonstrate to the SBS Selection Committee how your experience, skills, knowledge and qualifications are relevant to the specific requirements of the advertised position. As this is your first contact with the Selection Committee, and as it is likely yours will be one of many applications viewed by the Committee, this is the most important feature of your application. And it will determine whether or not you gain an interview.

Your application should include the following information:

Your Personal Information - please provide your email address for correspondence and your contact telephone number(s).

Your Work Experience - identify the relevant positions you have held from present to past, listing briefly the responsibilities and key achievements of each. Give greater detail on the more recent and current positions and highlight those details relevant to the vacancy.

Your Education and Training - list chronologically academic qualifications and training courses which are relevant to the position for which you are applying.

Statement against selection criteria - using the selection criteria as headings, describe how your particular work experience, skills and qualifications satisfy each of the selection criteria for the position. Your statement against the selection criteria should preferably be a separate attachment.

SBS has a strong and clearly-defined view of who we are as an organisation, why we are here and how we need to conduct ourselves. When answering the selection criteria please be aware that while you need not address SBS Values specifically, your alignment with them is as crucial to your eligibility for the position as your skills and experience.

Your Referees - provide the names and telephone numbers of at least two referees, including your current supervisor, if possible. Your referees should be able to comment on your work performance and on your abilities in relation to the selection criteria. If you would prefer not to nominate your current supervisor for confidentiality reasons, please specify this. SBS will normally only contact the referees of the preferred candidate(s) after interview.

Your application will be acknowledged as soon as possible after receipt.

Your Availability for Interview:

As an applicant, you will be considered as being available for interview from the date applications close. Normally, at least two days' notice of an interview is given by the Selection Committee. If you are going to be absent from work and/or home at any time in the next few weeks, you should advise the dates of your absence in your application.

The Interview:

A Selection Committee will be assessing your suitability for the position against the selection criteria and the SBS Values. This will usually involve questioning that is structured around the selection criteria. You may be asked to bring material supporting your application with you to the interview, if relevant. Only those applicants with strong claims to the position will be interviewed. Those applicants who are not selected for interview will be advised in writing.
